A standard plastic tag pin (a string lock pin) has two parts: a string and a lock. First, you thread the string through the tag hole and the product's loop. Then you push the string end into the lock and snap it shut. The whole step takes seconds, so packing moves faster.
The string holds the tag firmly, yet a shopper can snip it off with scissors. Stores therefore use it for price tags in a basic retail labels setup.
Teardrop seal tags and loop pins
A teardrop seal tag is the more secure version of the standard model. Both string ends meet inside a teardrop-shaped plastic seal. Once it clicks shut, it stays shut, so removing the tag means cutting the string. As a result, the tag stays put, and swapping it becomes difficult.
